HC Deb 12 February 1957 vol 564 c164W
Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent it is the policy of his Department to refuse a hill cattle subsidy to farms that may qualify for the subsidy if the owners of these farms have another major arable farm in the area.

Mr. Maclay

It is the policy of my Department to refuse hill cattle subsidy where the farming unit as a whole does not conform to the conditions of the Hill Cattle (Scotland) Scheme. A farming unit for this purpose may be a single farm or two or more farms adjoining or in close proximity, worked as one complete unit.
