HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c133W
Captain Pilkington

asked the Paymaster-General, in view of the United States of America not supplying her western allies with all the oil which they had expected, what reappraisal of our strategic position, in this respect, has been made; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Maudling

Although oil exports from the U.S. to Europe have not increased during recent months so much as was hoped, they have been substantially higher than they were before November. The House will have noted what President Eisenhower has recently said about the need for a further effort by the U.S. oil industry to provide Europe with the oil it needs, and it would be wrong to assume that no improvement will take place in the present level of supply.
