HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 cc132-3W
113. Mr. Grimond

asked the Paymaster-General if he will make a statement on the petrol situation as compared with this time last year.

Mr. Maudling

Thanks to the savings effected by rationing, and by the cooperation of all classes of consumer, stocks of petrol are now only a little below the level of a year ago. The major difference in the situation is, of course, that over the next few months supplies are unlikely to amount to more than between 70 and 80 per cent. of normal consumption.
