HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c114W
60. Mr. Parkin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the announcement of the Eisenhower doctrine on the Middle East, what is now the policy of Her Majesty's Government particularly in relation to the present and future rôles of the United Nations and its Specialised Agencies in that area.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

As the Prime Minister informed the House on 5th February, Her Majesty's Government have welcomed President Eisenhower's statement.

Her Majesty's Government hope that the United Nations will take a positive role in seeking settlement of the problem between the Arab States and Israel. The activities of the Specialised Agencies of the United Nations in the area will have the continued support of Her Majesty's Government.
