§ 70. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to what extent the United Nations Emergency Force has so far operated in Egypt without undue 115W friction or obstruction; and, in the light of experience, what are the difficulties in respect of its further operation.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydHer Majesty's Government are not aware that the United Nations Emergency Force has met with any undue friction or obstruction. Any operational force composed of contingents from ten different countries is of course bound to meet with technical and linguistic difficulties. But there is no reason to believe that these difficulties are not being satisfactorily surmounted.
§ 75. Mr. Pitmanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will inform the Secretary-General of the United Nations that, in the event of the Egyptian Government, in the exercise of the rights reserved to them by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Organisation, requiring the withdrawal of all United Nations Emergency Force troops on Egyptian territory, he would be willing to consider a lend-lease transaction for providing an island or other possession inside the British Commonwealth for the stationing of such a force.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydI will consider my hon. Friend's suggestion.
