HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c148W
Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Postmaster-General, whether he is aware that the European Programme on 232 metres is imperfectly heard south of the Loire and east of the Rhine; and whether he will increase the power of the transmitters.

Mr. Marples

The B.B.C. European programme on 232 metres is intended primarily for Scandinavia, Germany and Central Europe, and includes no broadcasts in French. The B.B.C. tell me that the programmes are satisfactorily received except where there is jamming. There are broadcasts to northern France on 224 metres, and the power used for those transmissions is the maximum allowed by international agreement. Southern France is served through the B.B.C.'s short-wave service which can be satisfactorily received.
