HC Deb 04 February 1957 vol 564 cc7-8W
65. Mr. Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what answer has been given to the request of the Government of Monaco that a consular representative shall reside in Monte Carlo.

Mr. Ian Harvey

I am not prepared to disclose the details of this confidential official correspondence, but every effort will be made to ensure that consular business arising in the Principality of Monaco is adequately dealt with.

66. Mr. Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what reply he has given to the communication by the British agents in Monte Carlo for the Onassis group warning him that several million dollars worth of business is likely to be transferred from British to American and German insurance agencies with consulates in Monaco or Nice because there is no British consulate nearer than Marseilles.

Mr. Ian Harvey

The agents were informed that, while their anxieties were understood, it was nevertheless hoped that the arrangements to be made by Her Majesty's Consulate-General at Marseilles would be such as to avoid any considerable inconvenience to the agents in the operation of their organisation.
