HC Deb 04 February 1957 vol 564 c20W
136. Mr. Parker

asked the Paymaster-General to what extent there has been a reduction in the number of fires arising from conveyor systems in the British mines since the introduction of noninflammable conveyor belting in the pits in 1954 as compared with the incidence of these fires at the time of the Cresswell Colliery disaster and before.

Mr. Renton

29 fires were reported during the three years 1954, 1955 and 1956, compared with 44 for the previous three-year period. There were no serious fires where fire-resistant belting was used.
