HC Deb 04 February 1957 vol 564 cc6-7W
101. Sir F. Medlicott

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what plans are in hand for increasing the extent of British radio propaganda in the Middle East in order to meet the inaccurate and misleading propaganda broadcast by Cairo Radio.

Mr. Ian Harvey

There are daily broadcasts for a period of 15 hours in Arabic from Cyprus on both short and medium wave. The latter having been made possible by requisitioning of the facilities of the Near East Arab Broadcasting Station. These broadcasts include the British Broadcasting Corporation's Arabic Service which is also radiated on short wave direct from this country. My right hon. Friend is engaged at the moment in reviewing the effectiveness of the present broadcasting arrangements.
