71. Mr. Hunter

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many theatres and cinemas have closed in this country during 1957, up to the latest convenient date.

Mr. Erroll

The provisional number of cinemas that have closed between 1st January and 12th December, 1957, is 160. No Government Department collects complete statistics of theatres.

Mr. Swingler

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many cinemas, which had closed before the reduction in Entertainments Duty in the last Budget, have now re-opened, following the granting of relief.
