HC Deb 12 December 1957 vol 579 c148W
62. Mr. G. Brown

asked the Prime Minister which heading of the Churchill-Truman agreement of 9th January, 1952, whereby the use of the American bases in Britain in an emergency became subject to joint decision, regulates the placing of those United States Strategic Air Command bases in the United Kingdom on a fifteen minute alert.

The Prime Minister

The Statement of 9th January, 1952, reaffirmed a previous understanding reached in the time of Mr. Attlee's Government. This understanding relates to the use of the bases in emergency and is not concerned with the state of readiness of the forces stationed at the bases.
