HC Deb 11 December 1957 vol 579 c125W
61. Mr. Grimond

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware of the fall in income suffered by some sub-postmasters; and what steps he proposes to take to meet the situation.

Mr. K. Thompson

The pay of individual sub-postmasters rises and falls as a result of three-yearly reviews of the level of business at each office. This system has worked well for many years and I do not propose to change it.

Since 1st December, 1956, two pay increases have been given; overall these have added £980,000 to the yearly pay of sub-postmasters.
