HC Deb 04 December 1957 vol 579 c42W
50. Mr. Bottomley

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he will make a statement about recruitment for the Royal Marines, particularly on the proposal that extra leave should be granted to serving men who secured new recruits.

Mr. Soames

Recruitment for the Royal Marines during the first six months of this financial year was at the rate of 700 a year. We hope to increase this rate to about a thousand a year and are studying ways and means of achieving this. The grant of extra leave to serving men who bring in recruits is one idea which is still being examined.
