§ 50. Mr. Bottomleyasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he will make a statement about recruitment for the Royal Marines, particularly on the proposal that extra leave should be granted to serving men who secured new recruits.
§ Mr. SoamesRecruitment for the Royal Marines during the first six months of this financial year was at the rate of 700 a year. We hope to increase this rate to about a thousand a year and are studying ways and means of achieving this. The grant of extra leave to serving men who bring in recruits is one idea which is still being examined.
