HC Deb 04 December 1957 vol 579 c49W
93. Mr. Ernest Davies

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether his attention has been called to the conclusion, reached at the recent conference on British highways under the auspices of the Institution of Civil Engineers, that an expenditure of approximately£350 million a year will have to be incurred on new construction and major improvement work for the next 10 years if British roads are to be adequate for the probable traffic which they will have to carry by the end of that period; and whether he will arrange for the planning section of his Department to consider this matter so that an early statement can be made as to how it is intended to deal with it.

Mr. Watkinson

The conclusions of the conference, which I do not necessarily accept, are now being examined by my Department.
