HC Deb 02 December 1957 vol 579 cc8-9W
50. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Health the percentage of coal miners in North Staffordshire who avail themselves of the services of the mass radiography unit which examines the men at the pit-head; and how many cases of pulmonary tuberculosis have been detected among the men since the inception of the survey.

Mr. Walker-Smith

About 75 per cent., or 15,000, of the mineworkers in North Staffordshire were X-rayed by the Regional Hospital Board's mass miniature unit during its recent surveys. 63 were found to have active pulmonary tuberculosis.
