HC Deb 17 April 1957 vol 568 c195W
57. Mr. Bean

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what basis decisions are reached in the dependent territories for the compilation of prescribed lists of seditious publications; and to what extent consultation with the United Kingdom Government takes place before such lists are finally agreed.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Decisions to ban a publication in a Colonial Territory in the public interest rest entirely with the Government of the territory in the light of local circumstances.

58. Mr. Benn

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will state the names of those territories where prescribed lists of seditious publications have been promulgated; and if he will circulate those lists in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I am consulting Colonial Governments and will communicate with the hon. Member when their replies have been received.
