Captain Kerbyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the purpose and cost to public funds of the visit, paid in September as guests of the British Council, of 43 Egyptian educationists to Scotland ; what was the purpose of this visit ; and what steps he proposes taking to ensure that public money is not in future spent by the British Council on such visits, in view of his own exhortations towards economy in Government service.
§ Mr. Dodds-ParkerThe visit in question was a course arranged in Dundee from 12th to 25 th August, the subject being educational administration. The 42 Egyptian educationists who attended the course were members of an educational mission who spent three months in the United Kingdom. The Dundee course being the final portion of their period of 77W study. The arrangements were made by the British Council at the request of the Egyptian Ministry of Education, who met all the costs. No costs fell upon British Council funds.
