HC Deb 15 March 1956 vol 550 cc64-5W
94. Mr. Younger

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been reported to him in the negotiations between the British and Icelandic trawler fishery interests; whether Her Majesty's Government are now taking part in these negotiations; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. H. Nicholls

My right hon. Friend understands that the discussions between representatives of the British and Icelandic trawler owners about the orderly resumption of landings are expected to be resumed in the near future. At the suggestion of the O.E.E.C. Group, the meetings are being attended by Government observers from the two sides but Her Majesty's Government are taking no part in the discussions. Any statement would best await their conclusion.
