HC Deb 04 July 1956 vol 555 c113W
65. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the estimated housing requirements in Singapore; the average number of houses built during the past five years by the Singapore Improvement Trust; and the estimate for the current year.

Mr. Hare

The Singapore Master Plan, published last year, estimates that 10,000 housing units a year need to be built in Singapore to provide for slum clearance and the increase in population over the next 20 years. The Singapore Improvement Trust built an annual average of 2,016 units during the years 1951–1955 and expect to build 2,272 this year.
