§ 55. Mr. Russellasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what kind of tobacco is being grown under the new cultivation being undertaken by the Jamaica Tobacco Company; and to what extent this will help to diversify Jamaica's agriculture.
§ Mr. HareThe Jamaica Tobacco Leaf Development Company has some 450 acres planted with cigar leaf tobacco and some 140 acres with Virginia tobacco. There have been reports that the Company plans to cultivate up to 20,000 acres of cigarette tobacco. If this can be achieved it would undoubtedly help to diversify Jamaica's economy.
