HC Deb 15 February 1956 vol 548 cc272-3W
Mr. Bellenger

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when he anticipates the East Retford by-pass scheme on which work started in June, 1955, is likely to be completed; and what is the present estimate of the total cost involved.

Mr. Watkinson

At least one carriageway of the diversion is expected to be open to traffic by December, 1956, and it is hoped that the second carriageway will also be completed by then. Experimental works are, however, being undertaken in co-operation with the Road Research Laboratory in the construction of foundations and these may delay completion of the second carriageway by a few months. The present estimate of the total cost is £225,000.
