§ 72. Sir W. Wakefieldasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies at what date, and why, the practice of the Governor's consent to the election of an Archbishop was altered; and if the Government of Cyprus was consulted before changing such a practice.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe decision to change the practice was taken in 1946. The right hon. Gentleman, the Member for Wakefield (Mr. Creech Jones), who was then Secretary of State said, in a statement to the House on 23rd October, 1946, that the retention of three local laws of 1937, dealing with this matter, seemed no longer to be justifiable; and that the decision that they should be repealed had been taken on the advice and with the concurrence of the Governor.
