HC Deb 15 February 1956 vol 548 cc261-2W
50. Mrs. Castle

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what were the demands presented by the United National Front of Aden in their Memorandum presented to the Governor on 3rd December last; and what reply has been sent to the Memorandum.

Mr. Hare

The Memorandum asked for a wide extension of the franchise and the early introduction of a fully elected Legislative Council with an Executive Council fully responsible to it. It also asked for a new Immigration Ordinance designed to curtail the entry of foreign technicians. The Governor has informed the United National Front that my right hon. Friend is unable to consider their suggestion regarding the Legislative Council. As to the present Immigration Ordinance he is satisfied that it effectively meets their wishes.
