HC Deb 12 December 1956 vol 562 c59W
109. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what representations he has had from the Royal Aero Club about the effect on private flying of the new addition to the petrol tax; what reply he has given; whether he will seek to adjust the grant to flying clubs to meet this new imposition; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Watkinson

The Royal Aero Club has asked that the grant paid to flying clubs in relief of petrol duty should be increased to take account of the recent extra duty of one shilling per gallon. Having regard to the temporary nature of this increase and to the purposes for which it has been imposed, I do not consider that it would be justifiable to relieve the clubs of it. I am replying to the Royal Aero Club in this sense.
