HC Deb 12 December 1956 vol 562 c58W
100 and 101. Mr. Woodburn

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation (1) whether he will permit driving tests to be given to doctors entering on practices and requiring to drive their own cars;

(2) whether he will permit driving tests to be made, provided the person involved has a petrol allowance and is willing for it to be used for test purposes or, alternatively, if some temporary arrangement can be made for provisional licences in urgent cases.

Mr. Watkinson

I regret that it is not possible for me to resume driving tests immediately, or to give priority to selected classes of applicants as suggested. But the relaxation I now propose, that for the time being a person who has held a provisional licence for a month need not be accompanied when driving by the holder of a substantive licence, should go a long way to meet the situation.
