HC Deb 12 December 1956 vol 562 cc43-4W
51. Mr. Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when the Primitiva Gas Company was expropriated by the Argentine Government; what action Her Majesty's Government has undertaken to obtain compensation during that period; and why this matter is not being discussed with Mr. Mendez Delfino, leader of the Argentine financial mission.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

The Primitiva Gas Company of Buenos Aires was expropriated in 1944. Since then, Her Majesty's Government have made representations to the Argentine Government on numerous occasions, asking that early and satisfactory compensation be paid to the company. Representations in this sense were made to Doctor Mendez Delfino in August. If no settlement of the company's claim has been reached by the time that negotiations with the Mission are resumed, the matter will be raised with Doctor Delfino once again.
