asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the strength of the police force in Scotland; and what is the authorised complement.

At 30th November, 1956, the authorised establishment of Scottish police forces was 8,468 male and 244 female officers. The actual strengths were 7,810 and 234, respectively.
