HC Deb 05 December 1956 vol 561 c129W
94. Mr. reeling

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in view of the British problems in that area, what information he received on his recent visit to the United Nations General Assembly concerning the present United States policy about the Middle East; and whether he will make a statment.

Commander Noble

My right hon. and learned Friend discussed the Middle East situation while he was in the United States with both Mr. Dulles and Mr. Lodge. These discussions were, of course, confidential, and I am not prepared to make a statement about them. Hon. Members, however, will no doubt have seen the statement on United States policy issued by the State Department on 3rd December.

97. Mr. Healey

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what contact he had with the United States President and Secretary of State during his recent visit to the United States of America.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

My right hon. and learned Friend had conversations with Mr. Dulles and with Mr. Hoover, the Under-Secretary of State, who had been acting for Mr. Dulles during his illness. My right hon. and learned Friend did not have an opportunity to speak to President Eisenhower.
