HC Deb 05 December 1956 vol 561 c120W
Mr. Owen

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he is aware that many learner drivers in Morpeth, Ashington, and Newbiggin, whose driving tests have been cancelled, were due to take their tests in December, January and February; and whether he will give priority to them when tests are resumed.

Mr. Watkinson

I will give this suggestion sympathetic consideration when tests are resumed.

Lieut.- Colonel Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation when his staff, who normally deal with driving tests and who are now dealing with petrol rationing, will be replaced by other staff, so that they can return to their normal duties and reduce the backlog of those awaiting driving tests.

Mr. Watkinson

The issue of fuel coupons for commercial vehicles is at present a task of first priority. I cannot say at this stage if it will be possible later to release examiners, but I shall do my best.
