HC Deb 05 December 1956 vol 561 c138W
120. Major Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what additional steps he proposes to take to assist the citrus industry in Cyprus in exporting fruit to this country.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Citrus fruit from Cyprus, in common with that from other parts of the Commonwealth, enjoys duty-free entry into the United Kingdom. The local Department of Agriculture exercises control over quality standards and also helps in many ways to encourage improved methods of culture and to combat pests. The Cyprus Government recently established a Department of Commerce and Industry which maintains liaison with the Cyprus Government Commissioner in London who is specially concerned with the U.K. market for Cyprus products. These measures operate satisfactorily and will continue.
