HC Deb 02 August 1956 vol 557 cc197-8W
59. Mrs. Butler

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that Middlesex County Council has declined to take further action in the formation of a joint committee with county district councils to deal with Middlesex overspill problems and has also refused to establish a central register for the whole county in connection with the Industrial Selection Scheme; and what action he now proposes to assist in dealing with the overspill problems of Middlesex as a whole.

Mr. Sandys

I understand that the county council came to its decision after consulting the county district councils, most of which were not in favour of a joint committee. While the initiative in negotiating town development schemes must rest with the individual authorities concerned, or with any joint body they may set up among themselves to co-ordinate their action, I shall be glad to give any help I can. The London New Towns will continue to be available to industry and population moving out of Middlesex.
