HC Deb 16 April 1956 vol 551 c51W
Mr. Fenner Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what reply has been given to the request of the Tanganyika African National Union that the Legislative Council should be dissolved and an election held on the ground that the principle of the Constitution which provided for independent representation of the different communities through nominated members has been destroyed by the formation of a political party among these members.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

In reply to the Union the Tanganyika Government have pointed out that political developments of this nature cannot by themselves justify departures from the path of orderly constitutional advance.
