HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 c136W
60. Mr. Reeves

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been drawn to cases of doctors charging high fees for signing cremation certificates B and C, amounting to £10 10s. in one instance, which violate the voluntary arrangements which he announced on 12th November, 1953, with the British Medical Association for a uniform fee of £2 2s., plus a mileage allowance at the rate of 1s. per mile; and if he will now make use of the powers contained in the Cremation Act, 1952, and prescribe maximum fees.

Major Lloyd-George

I must await the result of inquiries now being made by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health into certain cases brought to my notice in which fees in excess of those recommended by the British Medical Association are stated to have been charged.
