§ Mrs. Mannasked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many overseas broadcasts have been given since the beginning of July by the British Broadcasting Corporation; how many Members of Parliament have taken part and how often; if he will state their names; and where their script can be read or seen.
§ Mr. GammansI am informed that broadcasts in the Overseas Services of the B.B.C. amount in the aggregate to about 45 hours per day plus 37 in the European Services. Between 1st July, 1954,and 31st January, 1955, 51 Members of Parliament have actually broadcast in the Overseas Service and 35 have provided talks for the European Service, contributing between them a total of 225 broadcasts. If the hon. Member wants more detailed information, the B.B.C. would be prepared to provide it.
Scripts are not normally available to members of the public, but the B.B.C. has undertaken to furnish any Member of Parliament, on written request, with the script of any broadcast in which he or she may be interested.
