HC Deb 09 March 1955 vol 538 cc60-1W
Captain Kerby

asked the Minister of Defence whether he will now review the retired pay of the surviving officers who have received no increases in the rates of retired pay which were fixed by Royal Warrant in 1877, 1881 and 1887, and which are inadequate in 1955; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. H. Macmillan

These officers are eligible for pensions increase on grounds of hardship under the same conditions as other retired officers. As to the general question of pensions in a period of falling money values, I cannot add to the statement of Government policy set out in paragraphs 35–40 of the White Paper on Retired Pay and Pensions issued in March, 1954 (Cmd. 9092).
