HC Deb 09 March 1955 vol 538 c51W
99. Dr. Bennett

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty why he has not yet completed the arrangements leading to the provision of a new road between Fareham and Lee-on-Solent to replace that closed by his Department in 1941.

Mr. Digby

I regret that there has been further delay in this matter. The delay has been due to negotiations about the electricity cables, gas and water mains which it has been discovered are underneath the existing road. The Admiralty has decided that it is acceptable for the electricity cables and water main to remain in their present position, but that the gas main should be moved. I understand that my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation is now arranging to publish the necessary draft order.
