HC Deb 09 March 1955 vol 538 cc49-50W
74. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies in view of the severe financial and social burden imposed on Hong Kong by the presence there of 600,000 refugees and dependants, what action he is taking to secure the adoption of the proposals by Dr. Edvard Hambro forwarded to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in order effectively to supplement the efforts of the Hong Kong Government and local inhabitants.

Mr. Hopkinson

Dr. Hambro's report has not yet been discussed by the United Nations High Commissioner's Advisory Committee and it would be premature for my right hon. Friend to comment at this stage.
