asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will establish a committee of inquiry into the reasons for the decline in voluntary recruitment to the Royal Navy.

93. Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the percentage of ratings during the six months since the last pay rise given to the services in each branch of the Royal Navy who have, respectively, signed on to complete time for pension, signed on to complete a 12 years' engagement from an original engagement of seven years plus five years on the reserve, and signed on for a continuous or special service engagement after completing their National Service; and how these percentages of re-engagements compare with a similar period 12 months prior to the pay rise.
