Mr. Doddsasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, what progress is being made in the experiments, conducted under the control of his Department, to reduce the time of kipper curing by oak-chip fires and to give them a fresher and better taste.
§ Mr. BevinsExperiments on a small scale at the Torry Research Station of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research on an electrostatic method for curing kippers have shown promise of a substantial saving in time compared with the process now in use. It is hoped to try the new method on a factory scale next year, and that the result will be more palatable kippers.
