HC Deb 21 February 1955 vol 537 c99W
62. Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Minister of Health whether he has studied the Amsterdam Municipal Scheme of psychiatric service, details of which have been sent to him; and whether he will institute an experiment on these lines to combat the overcrowding of our mental hospitals.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

The Amsterdam service has been studied; it differs from our own in the emphasis on certain aspects of care rather than fundamental principles. The continued development of our own system of out-patient and domiciliary services, in which the Amsterdam experience is valuable, is preferable to an experiment on identical lines.
