HC Deb 14 February 1955 vol 537 c5W
68. Mr. Chapman

asked the Minister of Health to what extent mental hospital facilities will be improved in Birmingham under the expanded scheme of hospital expenditure; and what extensions and improvements have been approved or are under consideration for 1955 at Hollymoor Hospital and other Birmingham mental hospitals.

Mr. Iain Macleod

As I told the House on Wednesday, a new mental hospital near Wolverhampton is planned for inclusion in the new programme, but until I have the regional hospital board's proposals I cannot say what other mental hospital schemes will be included. Four schemes at three of the Birmingham mental hospitals, including 80 more beds at Hollymoor Hospital, are already in progress or expected to start in 1955–56.
