HC Deb 14 February 1955 vol 537 c5W
67. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health to what extent the use of analgesia is now customary with confinements in hospitals; what recent report he has received respecting its efficacy; and what experiments are now taking place in respect of improvements in the employment of analgesia or a superior substitute.

Mr. Iain Macleod

No special information is available about use in hospitals. The most recent development in this field is the use of trilene, which can now be administered by midwives in accordance with rules just made by the Central Mid-wives' Board.
