HC Deb 09 February 1955 vol 536 c213W
Mr. Page

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how many pedestrian-actuated traffic lights are in operation in England and Wales; and what information and statistics he can provide as to the reduction of accidents where such lights have been installed.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Information is not available for England and Wales, but in the Greater London area, which contains 30 per cent. of all traffic light signals in Great Britain, approximately 175 signal installations incorporate pedestrian push-button mechanism. There are no reliable statistics from which conclusions can be drawn as to their effect on accidents.
