HC Deb 09 February 1955 vol 536 cc213-4W
43. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will make a further statement regarding an international airport to serve the northeast area.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

An area at Boldon, County Durham, has been safeguarded since 1947 as a possible site for a future international airport to serve the north-east. I cannot foresee any requirement for international air services in that region which could not be adequately met at Woolsington, and I propose accordingly to withdraw safeguarding restrictions from Boldon, in order to remove public uncertainty.
