Mr. Rankin

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he is now in a position to say when work on the Whiteinch Tunnel will be started.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I understand that the Corporation of Glasgow, who are the promoters of this scheme, expect to obtain possession of the whole site, do the necessary demolition work and start actual construction of the tunnel before the end of 1955.
