asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will include the Rood Hill by-pass at Congleton in the development programme for that town for 1955–56; and if he has considered the details of the need for this by-pass which have been sent to him.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I cannot promise to authorise this scheme for 1955–56, but on receiving an application from the Cheshire County Council I will consider giving it an early place in the road programme.
