HC Deb 14 December 1955 vol 547 c187W
84. Mr. G. Wilson

asked the Postmaster-General what progress has been made in the last two years in putting telephone and telegraph wires underground; and whether, in all suitable cases, the electricity authorities are consulted with a view to co-operation for purposes of economy.

Mr. Gammans

It is our policy to put lines underground where this is economic, and on the longer routes, which I assume my hon. Friend has particularly in mind, the mileage of overhead wires is about one-sixth less than two years ago. The Answer to the second part of the Question is "Yes."
