HC Deb 12 December 1955 vol 547 cc128-9W
73. Mr. J. Slater

asked the Minister of Health the present figures of nursing staff at the Winterton Mental Hospital, and the number of patients at present living in this hospital; and how such figures compare with those of twelve months ago.

Mr. Iain Macleod

There are at present 2,049 patients and 346 full-time and 93 part-time nurses. At the end of last December the number of patients was 2,058 and there were 349 full-time and 79 part-time nurses.

74. Mr. J. Slater

asked the Minister of Health what plans he has for the general alteration of the Winterton Mental Hospital so as to modernise its appearance and improve the facilities for patients.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I am informed that the Regional Hospital Board intends to include six development projects at this hospital in its capital programme for the next two years. The estimated total cost is £103,500.

75. Mr. J. Slater

asked the Minister of Health what plans he has for the improving of nursing facilities at the Winterton Mental Hospital.

Mr. Iain Macleod

If the hon. Member has in mind measures for improving the nursing staff situation, I would refer him to the Answer given to the hon. Member for Ilford, North (Mr. Iremonger) on 31st October. This hospital was visited by my mental nursing officers about a year ago, when staffing questions were fully discussed with the senior officers of the hospital management committee.
