asked the Minister of Health how many deaths have occurred in England and Wales from chronic bronchitis in 1928, 1938, 1948, and for the last year for which figures are available.

The comparable numbers of deaths from chronic bronchitis in 1928, 1938, 1948 and 1954 were as follows:—

Mr. Hastings

asked the Minister of Health the death rate from chronic bronchitis for the last year for which figures are available but not published; and whether this rate is increasing or decreasing.

The death rate from chronic bronchitis for 1954 was 458 per million persons living. The death rate for men was 684 per million and for women 249 per million. These rates are lower than the corresponding rates in each of the previous three years.
