HC Deb 21 October 1954 vol 531 c197W
55. Mr. E. Wakefield

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider postponing the termination of Summer Time next year until the third Sunday in October.

Major Lloyd George

Since 1952, the period has been fixed by the Acts of 1922 and 1925. In 1955 this period will be from 17th April to 2nd October. The Government have decided that it would not be right to ask Parliament in future to consider the use of the special powers given by the Summer Time Act, 1947, to effect annual changes in the statutory period unless there are most exceptional reasons to do so.
